Dethatching and Mowing

Dethatching And Mowing.

Dethatching and Mowing are two additional services that further enhance the health of your lawn and bolster it’s defences against disease and pests.

What is Dethatching?

Dethatching is the process of removing excessive amounts of dead organic matter from the base of your lawn that you simply would not be capable of doing with a rake alone. The process is an effective preventative against disease and pest infestations.

What is Cylinder Mowing?

Cylinder Mowing is a form of mowing that is ideal for providing low cuts without damaging the underlying turf that often occurs when using traditional rotary mowers. Our cylinder mowers are also capable of providing those clean striped cuts to better help improve the aesthetic appearance of your lawn.

Dethatching Deep Dive.

Dethatching involves the removal of the thatch layer that often builds up between the blades of grass and the soils surface over time. Thatch is a composition of dead grass, roots and organic debris – and while a small-moderate amount is often beneficial for soil health and turf growth, too much can cause several problems.

An increased risk or disease and pest infestations are a frequently occurring problem with turf that has excessive thatch in it.

Our arborists will generally clear the thatch by using either a special rake or machine that pulls up and removes the excessive material without damaging the turf itself. The end result is a lawn that is able to grow thicker, healthier and more resilient.

Regular Mowing? Not Quite.

Cylinder mowing is a form of mowing that is ideal for providing low cuts without damaging the underlying turf that often occurs when using traditional rotary mowers. A cylinder mower works by cutting grass with blades that spin horizontally rather than vertically, which results in a far neater and cleaner cut then you would otherwise get with a traditional mower.

This assists with reducing the risk of frayed tips being left behind that can lead to browning in the appearance of the turf or, in some cases, increased breakouts of disease.
