Proactive Action Over Reaction.

We conduct regular inspections for signs of weeds, pests and diseases to ensure that if problems are present, they are found and dealt with before they become a problem.

Our control methods work by preventing these problems from having the chance to establish themselves. In instances where an outbreak of weeds or pests are found, we use targeted herbicides and pest sprays, applying them in safe volumes to ensure that collateral damage, especially to your turf and lawn, is kept to an absolute minimum.

Common Australian Weeds.

Weeds such as Bindii, Clover and Dandelion are a few of the most invasive weeds that appear on Australian lawns. Once they establish themselves, these broadleaf weeds compete with your lawn for nutrients, water and sunlight which ultimately weakens the lawn on top of creating a messy and cluttered appearance.

You can find a very short list of the most common weeds found in Australian gardens and lawns below, as well as a few treatment methods.

Bindii.

Bindii (Soliva sessilis) is a type of weed that spreads most commonly during the winter months of the year and spreads rapidly across the surface of the lawn. The problem these weeds create isn’t just the fact they are competing with the turf – it’s that between late spring and early summer they create sharp, spiky seeds that are quite painful to walk on, especially for children and animals.

Bindii tends to thrive in compacted soils or areas where the turf is thinning due to other stressors or nutritional imbalances. As a result, the best way to combat Bindii is early intervention. Applying selective broadleaf herbicides in later winter-early spring before the seeds can form will prevent the discomfort caused by the seeds and also prevent the weeds from further spreading or re-blooming next year.

Clovers.

Clovers can quickly dominate the surface of a yard when left alone, quickly forming dense patches that easily outcompete grass for resources. Even once removed these areas are often left barren, requiring additional treatment and care in order to restore the turf to a healthy state.

Clovers tend to thrive in lawns with low nitrogen levels, often attributed to poor or neglected soil quality. Treating an outbreak of clovers can usually be handled by applying nitrogen-rich fertilisers to encourage grass growth, alongside the application of selective broadleaf herbicides in severe infestations.

Dandelion.

Dandelion (scientific name here) is a type of weed that spreads most commonly during the winter months of the year and spreads rapidly across the surface of the lawn. The problem these weeds create isn’t just the fact they are competing with the turf – it’s that between late spring and early summer they create sharp, spiky seeds that are quite painful to walk on, especially for children and animals.

Proactive Protection.

Weeds are often a symptom of underlying issues rather than the cause themselves. Compacted soil, low fertility, poor nutritional balance and patchy turf all contribute to outbreaks of weeds. Addressing these root causes with other services such as aeration, fertilising and irrigation management is just as important as eliminating the weeds themselves.

Supporting Successful Projects Before Construction Begins.

The most effective arboricultural outcomes are achieved during the earliest stages of project planning. By identifying opportunities and constraints before detailed design, Heritage Consultancy assists clients in reducing project risk, minimising redesigns, avoiding construction variations and achieving efficient planning approvals.

Our consultants work closely with developers, architects, planners and engineers to integrate arboriculture into the design process, delivering practical solutions that balance project objectives with environmental and legislative requirements.
