What Are Project Arborists?
Project Arborists are highly qualified consultants (AQF Level 5+) who manage, document and protect the health of trees during construction or major development projects. These consultants operate on a supervisory level, delivering advice to planners and ensuring that a project proceeds in-line with governing regulations.
Before construction even begins on any planned site, project arborists are already conducting surveys, assessing tree health, preparing impact reports and mapping out the Notional Root Zone (NRZ’s). They assist project planners with ensuring their developments comply with regulations such as AS4970-2025 and arrange permits so that all the legal requirements are met.
Planning & Compliance.
Conduct Tree Surveys
Assessing the value any tree(s) on site and their value contributed to the environment and surroundings, often taking into consideration the species, structural integrity and historical/cultural significance.
Preparing Impact Assessment Reports
Providing detailed and comprehensive reports that help guide development while also prioritising the preservation of trees on site.
Tree Protection Zones
Utilising guidelines from AS4970-2025, a project arborist will create a detailed site plan of protection zones around trees, so that the impact to them
Monitoring Throughout Development.
On-Site Monitoring
Regular monitoring of the project as it is undertaken to ensure that everything remains in compliance with regulations.
Certification for Finished Projects
Following final inspections, documentation and assessments for any on-site trees.
Post-Construction Roles.
Tree Assessments
Following the completion of developments, arborists will perform a site wide assessment of trees and evaluate the impact that construction has had on retained trees and whether any remediation is required.
Certification for Finished Projects
Following the conclusion of works on site, arborists will provide certification and keep documentation that demonstrates the clients compliance throughout the development cycle.
Long-Term Guidance
Project Arborists will provide guidance for the ongoing maintenance to ensure the survival and flourishment of any retained or freshly planted trees.
